Amalio Telenti, MD PhD, is Director of the Institute of Microbiology of the University Hospital of Lausanne, and Professor of Medical Virology at the University of Lausanne, in Switzerland.

He was senior/co-senior investigator of the first large genome analyses investigating human susceptibility to HIV-1 and hepatitis C virus (Fellay et al, Science 2007, Loeuillet et al, PloS Biol 2008, Fellay et al PLoS Pathogen 2009, Rauch et al. Gastroenterology 2010). His laboratory also completed large genome-wide human and comparative human-primate transcriptome analyses in HIV disease (Rotger et al, PLoS Pathogens 2010, Rotger et al J Clin Invest 2011). In previous work, he identified the molecular basis of resistance to rifampicin, ethambuthol and the fluoroquinolones. This research on TB-HIV treatment has influence diagnostics and management of co-infected patients.

He is a Chairman of the Advisory on Genomics (GRWG) to the Office of AIDS Research, National Institute of Health of the USA, founder of the Core Genetics project of the Swiss HIV Cohort Study, and co-chair, Basic Science Track of the 2012 International AIDS conference
